Tips For Selecting Crystal Transistor

Tips for selecting crystal transistor

It is necessary to understand the types and materials of transistors, commonly used are NPN and PNP. These two types of transistors have different requirements for voltage polarity when working, so these two types of transistors cannot be replaced with each other. Triode materials include germanium and silicon materials, and the difference between them before is that the voltage is actually different.

In an amplification circuit, if the same type of germanium tube is used to replace the same type of silicon tube, and vice versa, it is generally acceptable, but necessary adjustments must be made to the base bias voltage. Because their starting voltage is different, specific analysis must be conducted to determine whether different materials of transistors can be interchanged in pulse circuits and switch circuits, and blind substitution is not allowed.

There are only three steps to select Field-effect transistor:

Choose the appropriate channel (N channel or P channel)

Determine the rated current of Field-effect transistor. After selecting the rated current, calculate the conduction loss.

To determine thermal requirements, designers must consider both worst-case and real-world scenarios during design. It is generally recommended to calculate for the worst-case scenario, as this result provides greater safety margin and ensures that the system will not fail
